EFT summarized

EFT is designed to be implemented in 8-20 sessions of couple therapy.  A positive therapeutic alliance with both partners is a pre-requisite to successful treatment.  It is not designed to be used with violent or separating couples.  It is most successful with couples who wish to achieve closer bonds in their relationship but have become alienated by negative interactional styles.  It can be used in a variety of populations from martially distressed couples to couples with multiple problems including posttraumatic stress disorder; depression; and anxiety.  Shortened forms of EFT are used with non-clinical couples where one partner has suffered a recent stressor, including life-threatening illness. EFT is suitable for couples who have experienced major ‘attachment injuries’ in their relationship including infidelity so long as this or other source of ‘injury’ or betrayal is in the past.

All information regarding EFT is quoted for paraphrased from ‘The Practice of Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy: Creating Connections’ (Johnson, S.M., 2004) or ‘Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy with Trauma Survivors: Strengthening Attachment Bonds’ (Johnson, S.M., 2002).  This information represents to basic tenets of EFT and any errors are unintentional.

Delegates are strongly recommended to pre-read ‘The Practice of Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy: Creating Connections’ available on order at Archive Book Store, Claremont, prior to the workshop.
