Psychology is an approach to improving mental wellbeing similar to Psychiatry, though Psychologists cannot prescribe medication. Psychologists use well researched methods best suited to assist clients overcome their mental illness or improve mental wellbeing/personal growth. Registered Psychologists have completed four years University study and Clinical Psychologists or Clinical Psychologist Registrars have completed a minimum of six years University study, with two years Post-graduate study. Psychological methods include developing strategies and skills to reduce symptoms; develop understanding about a person’s past and how this has contributed to current problems in order to resolve emotional distress; and understanding the influence of emotions and behaviour in relationships to create healthy and happy relationships. Psychologists are trained to use a ‘scientist-practitioner’ approach – incorporating thorough assessment with diagnosis and individual treatment plans and revision of progress to ensure clients receive the most appropriate psychological intervention. Psychologists at TASSC work closely with client’s Psychiatrists and GP’s; medication is included in treatment, as prescribed by medical doctors, if required. Psychologists work with clients suffering mild to severe mental illness; clients seeking assistance with social or relationship issues; or wishing to improve other aspects of their lives.

Clinical/Counselling
Therapy - All Psychologists at TASSC are
experienced in providing assessment and treatment for psychological disorders
including anxiety; depression; and mood disorders. They also provide
specialized services noted in their individual profiles, including therapy for
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder; overcoming abuse and trauma; relationship
counselling; managing stress; and grief counselling. Our Psychologists are
registered with the Board of Psychologists, WA. They use therapeutic approaches
which have been thoroughly researched and scientifically validated.
Cognitive Assessment – this is a thorough assessment of how a client is functioning in aspects of thinking; memory; intelligence; perception and other cognitive functions. Assessment can assist in the detection of memory problems; dementia; neurological disorders; attentional deficits including ADD/ADHD.
Vocational Rehabilitation Counselling – this is a focused intervention to assist client’s become re-employed; change employment; manage issues in their current place of employment. Sessions include a thorough assessment; developing skills to improve performance in the workplace; managing anxiety, anger, or other problems; and developing strategies to achieve individual goals.
