Groups & Skills Trainging for Clients
(Medicare
Rebate GP referral required/Self-referred clients welcome)
All groups are restricted to a maximum of
six clients. Groups focus on a specific
issue to facilitate individuals developing skills to overcome problems and
enhance their lifestyle.
To determine if a group is suitable to
assist you, consult your doctor or therapist.
If you are not currently consulting a therapist discuss the benefits of
these groups with our experienced Clinic Manager, Dale.
Communication
Skills: Four
1 ½ hr weekly sessions
Suitable for individuals wishing to improve
their general communication skills and clients developing communication skills
to improve relationships; work performance; or general social skills.
Objectives
- Learn principles underlying successful communication
- Identify personal communication strengths and weaknesses
- Develop skills to communicate assertively and confidently
- Practice and consolidate acquired communication skills
Distress
Tolerance/Managing Emotional Distress: Four 1 ½ hr
weekly sessions
Groups are suitable for clients
experiencing depression; anxiety; or general emotional distress. Separate
groups are available for clients with mild to moderate distress; seeking skills
to reduce distress instead of using medication. Groups are also available for clients
experiencing severe emotional distress wishing to acquire distress tolerance
skills to compliment medication and other treatment approaches.

Dialectic
Behaviour Therapy – Skills: Eight 1 ½ hr weekly sessions
Suitable for clients diagnosed with Borderline
Personality Disorder.
Dialectic Behaviour Skills groups cover a
range of lifestyle skills including Managing Emotional Distress. Clients must currently be in therapy with a
Psychiatrist or Allied Mental Health Professional. Group facilitator will communicate with
client’s individual therapists, with client consent, to maximize the benefits
of the skills group.
Understanding
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder – 2hr single session
Suitable for clients diagnosed with
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder; individuals who have been exposed to a traumatic
experience; and partners/family of those who have experienced trauma. Light
refreshments provided and general discussion invited
Objectives:
- Overview of the neurobiology of trauma
- Understand the symptoms of trauma-related disorders
- Develop strategies to manage trauma-related symptoms
- The role of medication in the treatment of trauma
- The role of therapy in the treatment of trauma
